I teach at a campus that is Title 1, where the majority of my kids come from very low socioeconomic background. My Kindergarten students have had to grow up fast, some having to rush home from school to take care of their younger siblings at age 5 and some who have been exposed to traumatic experiences due to the conditions and environment they live in. It is important for young children to experience dramatic play as it promotes an emotional outlet and teaches conflict resolutions-skills that are strongly important in the real world and real life situations. The majority of my students have a disadvantage to dramatic play because resources are limited and/or unavailable. These resources will help support and teach self-regulation as well as social skills-how to problem solve by working through their differences and arranging a compromise. My STEM activities will help aide young children stay current with technology and allow them to be innovative and creative through play.
