I think we can all agree that learning a new language can be difficult. Learning it in a fully immersed classroom can be a little intimidating and scary especially when you're in second grade. The materials I have chosen for my classroom will be used to create a fun and comfortable learning environment for my students. Authentic Spanish books will give them the opportunity to learn more about Latino/a authors and the culture behind the language. The non-fiction books will allow my students to learn new vocabulary and be able to make real-world connections. By providing popular and fun books to read like books by Dr. Seuss my students' love for reading will grow. I have also chosen some center activities that will be used in order to keep my students engaged while I work with small groups or one-on-one teaching. By providing activities and resources that are easy to follow and use, my students won't need to stop and ask for help. They will be able to work independently or in groups without getting distracted because they’ll be having too much fun practicing their Spanish writing, and reading. My goal with these materials is for my students to learn and become comfortable in the Spanish language. To create an environment where my students are confident in using the Spanish skills they have learned. With these materials, I can help them get one step closer to reaching their goal of becoming bilingual.
