Last year our school adopted a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) focus. This focus has a very specific look in kindergarten. The lessons that support our STEM curriculum are focused on designing, planning, building, testing, and revising. For our young learners this must be concrete, and students need access to a number of high quality materials.
I have picked materials which encourage the use of fine motor skills, building opportunities, and problem solving. It is critical that students are able to self-select materials to make the learning as engaging as possible. Best of all, these materials will encourage conversations and collaboration among the students. This collaboration will help students expand on their own understanding and grow as learners .
