My students and I will use the telescope as we study the universe and all of its components. As students look into the sky they will be able to identify and connect vocabulary words with actual live images. This strategy is key when trying to reach our students with learning differences or ELL students. Images are vital. This hands on activity will create greater interest in the subject and also increase the retention of information. The benefits of having an actual telescope to study space would open the doors of possibilities for my kids. One of my favorite topics is chemical reactions! It is one of my favorite because the kids get so excited to see the different demonstrations I do. It is hard to have all 25ish students come around my lab table and actually observe and be actively engaged. We need the chemistry sets to allow students to mix and match chemicals in order to create reactions. They would record the chemicals they mixed and their observations of the their new product. Students would then use those observations and determine if the reaction was a chemical one or not. The ability to have this hands on experience for my kids would make a huge difference for all of my students not to mention the ELL and those that need a little extra hands on experience.
