I am a brand-new French teacher building my classroom library! I want my 4th-8th graders to have access to comprehensible, age-appropriate, and language-level-appropriate reading material. I plan to structure free-reading time into the class period several times per week. To do this, I will need a sizable library of books so that the students have choice and do not have to read the same book every day or every week. My hope as a teacher is to spark curiosity in my students - curiosity about everything! Reading is a great way to spark curiosity AND build confidence with a language. I remember the first time I read something in French and actually understood it; it was a remarkable feeling. Having books like these on a wide variety of topics available in my classroom will allow my students to explore their curiosity about different subjects and feel that same feeling of success!
