Middle School is such a formative and transitional age for scholars. This year I will be teaching creative writing centered around social emotional learning and development, and social justice. They will engage with real world applications such as self-awareness, relationships, societal awareness, and self discipline while writing speeches, poetry, short stories, and more. I want writing to come alive for them not just in the classroom, but in their every day interactions and experiences. My class will still be Common Core aligned, and will incorporate ELA skills, mathematic, and scientific thinking. I am striving to light a spark for writing in a new generation. Writers who are brave, compassionate, knowledgeable, and skilled at using their voice.
