  • STEAM Centers-Hands On Learning Approach

    Funded Feb 14, 2025

Thank you for your generous donation. With your support, my students will receive supplies and resources for our pollinator unit for our STEAM centers. STEAM centers are designed to bring unique educational experiences consisting of hands-on, interactive activities which allow students the opportunity to move around the room to various center areas to perform activities and experiments that enhance their learning. The donations of the STEAM centers will provide my students with materials that focus on concepts, such as plant life cycle and pollinators.

Along with the STEAM materials, the children will listen to read aloud books that focus on each scientific concept to view the topic in another perspective. Both the STEAM centers and interactive read alouds will help create a fun and inviting classroom environment as well as improve attention spans and focus.

The materials will arrive at the perfect time- right before spring. This will help the students use real world connections as the unit guides them through the science concept. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Volk

  • Building a Reader’s Library

    Funded Dec 12, 2024

Thank you for you generous donation! With your support, my students will receive books to create a home library. The children cheered with delight when I told them the amazing news! Each child will receive a book a month that focuses on a specific unit of study. For example, for February, the children will receive a Magic School Bus chapter book because they are reading nonfiction in the classroom. The books will be used in the classroom and at home. The books arrived today and created such excitement amongst the children! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Volk

  • Young Science Club- STEM Edition

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

The purpose of the Young Scientist Club is to provide an innovative, learning experience to help elicit excitement in STEM and to enhance the classroom instruction. With your support and generous donation, you gave my students this opportunity. Each child received a STEM: light and physics kit to complete in school. Then the children will bring their kits home to share with their families as a part of our school-wide incentive for creating better home-school connections. These kits and activities provided a fun, engaging way to comprehend science concepts: light. I hope that these activities and experiments will change my students' lives and create lifelong educational memories.”

  • Stem Fri-YAYs! (Holiday Edition)

    Funded Sep 19, 2024

Thank you for your generosity! With your support, my students will participate in their first STEM Holiday activity in October during our Halloween party! The children will use the plastic cauldrons to create a special chemical reaction potion to further their STEM creativity. Each holiday, the children will participate in a STEM activity. Many resulting in the ability to take the creation home to share with parents.

When the children were told about STEM Holiday Experiments, they all shouted with joy! The children could not wait for the upcoming holiday celebration!

I cannot wait until next week to share in their joy! Thank you again!”

  • Compassion Project: Growing Green

    Funded Jun 28, 2024

Thank you for your generosity! With your support, my students put together their hydroponic gardens. The children planted various cherry tomatoes and herbs. They will plant strawberry seeds next week. Each week, the children will monitor the growth of the plants. Once the plants are ready for harvesting, the children and I will create some healthy foods. One healthy idea that the children came up with is creating tomato sauce with the tomatoes and basil.

I cannot wait until next week to share in their joy! Thank you again!”

  • Earth Day Celebration: Classroom Garden

    Funded Apr 30, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation! With your support the children will grow their own plants as they analyze the plant life cycle in honor of Earth Day. Since the garden mason jars arrived later than expected, these earth day plants will then be given as Father's (or grandfather's) Day gifts from the children to their family members rather than for Mother's Day.

After Memorial Break, the children will begin the planting process. The garden mason jars will be placed under a grow light to help the plant life cycle move along quickly. The children will have roughly 2-1/2 weeks to grow their plants for Father's Day while analyzing the life cycle.

Thank you again! The children are super excited to start the growing process!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Volk

The students come from diverse backgrounds and economic statures. Currently, the school district has one of the largest homeless student populations, many of whom have limited access to reading materials. Many of these students are reading below grade level. Then there are those students who need to be challenged. These students need more enriching pieces of literature to maintain that joy of reading within in the classroom that their parents have created from early childhood. Since my classroom has a great range of reading levels and interests, all would enjoy an exciting library area!
