  • I want to LEARN how to READ!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

I can't begin to describe the excitement on my student's faces when they entered my classroom and saw the new books and learning centers. These books are exactly what my students needed. They are colorful, interesting, and on their level. This is helping build their confidence in reading and makes it more enjoyable.

The learning games such as the vowel sounds teaching tubs and snap and build clips are so much fun. My students can't wait to "play" at the centers when really they are building on their literacy skills. I already see such a huge impact these books and materials are making. Thank you so much for helping my students. We are extremely appreciative!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mangiliman

  • SHHH!! I'm Reading Here!

    Funded Jul 28, 2019

I can't begin to thank you enough for your generous donation! The students in my class don't always have access to books. You have allowed my students to listen to stories and the exposure to books they are not always able to read by themselves.

Having a listening center, lets my students get lost in a book. They enjoy reading and following along with a friend or even by themselves. It gives them a chance to tune out what is going on around them and just focus on the story in front of them.

I have also used the listening for students that need a break. Sometimes, my students get upset or frustrated about things going on their everyday lives so I let them go to the listening center as an escape. They usually come back feeling better and ready to learn. My class and I are extremely appreciative and I can't thank you enough!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mangiliman

Having a Listening Center in my first-grade classroom would benefit the students in so many different ways. It would give them the opportunity to read a book that they may be interested in but might be too hard. This way they would not be discouraged. My students would get the chance to practice one-to-one correspondence, vocabulary, and fluency. They could then talk with a peer about what the story was about and feel confident talking about the book. Listening to a story read to them while following along with a book would just be a great way for my students to get lost in a book. My students love when I do a read aloud so a listening center would be a great place for them to listen and engage in more books!
