Students need a gateway to reading. They need to find that one book that they love to read to lead them down the path to others -- and ultimately turn them into lifelong readers. That is what I hope to do with a better classroom library. The books I have picked out are all high-interest novels for teens that will help them want to pick up a new book and hopefully not put it down. I have found that reluctant readers especially love graphic novels, so I picked out several of those to get even my most hesitant students to try to read something new. I also picked out several new and classic young adult books that I currently do not have access to and would like to introduce students to. Even just donating one of these books to my classroom library would make a huge difference to a student in one of my English classes. I need a large variety of books because I typically have students pick out something that interests them for independent reading time in my class. With such a large and varied library, I can recommend books from all different genres to help students find that one book they will remember as the one that got them interested in reading.
