The students in my class have busy bodies and busy hands. They need an outside stimuli to help them focus while not distracting themselves or others. These manipulatives will not only help my students succeed in academic settings, but will also help them de-escalate from an emotional crisis. Due to intellectual delays there is a greater need for 1:1 groups and having the portable easel would be a life saver. The scholastic magazines would be a great asset in small groups and each student have a magazine on the reading level. Almost all my students have sensory disabilities and the florescent lights are too bright for my students and the effects the light covers will be tremendous. The low light will help create a calm atmosphere for body and mind. Visual schedules are must for my students with Autism, Traumatic Brain Injuries and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. They need to be able to know at all times where they are going next and when they are going. Keeping students with these types of disabilities in a structured environment with visual schedules throughout the room helps keep calm minds and bodies. The change of plans or uncertainty causes anxiety, which leads to frustration. Having a fluent daily visual schedule is a stress reliever. It will prepare them for their day and to allow them to be ready for transitions.
