The daily activities occurring in my speech & language therapy sessions must never become dull or boring! I desire a captive audience at all times in order to teach students how important their communication skills are, and will be, in the future. I love improving their awareness of the power of their communication skills by teaching them to use their speech clearly, by enhancing language understanding/use and increasing appropriate social interactions. We constantly play games and bring art projects to life using our fluency, articulation and language skills. We practice each session making crafts or coloring items that require crayons, colored pencils, glue, paints, scissors and more. Some projects are more intense than others and even require work at the students' homes, which actually engages a homework helper. Too often, my students may not have these resources at home to complete their projects. My students are noticeably more engaged in their learning process and less disruptive of their peers when they are provided hands-on opportunities. Speech and language concepts must be interactive and allow for student creativity. Unfortunately many of my students do not have the financial means to come prepared to school with the items requested. Additionally, we will all feel the effects of the nationwide pandemic in the Fall, so this is an effort to curtail financial burdens, while keeping students safe by supplying their needs individually.
