Most of my students struggle with reading on their grade level, writing complete sentences, as well as math. Students are required to read a specific number of books per nine weeks at our school. When they struggle with reading, having tools such as a Chromebook with internet provides the opportunity for them to follow along with their book while listening to the story online. There are technology programs that they are also required to spend a certain amount of time on each week or nine weeks. Not all students have computers at home. Students are provided time at school to work on these programs but, my students usually have to work harder and it takes them longer to complete these assignments. Having these Chromebooks in my room will provide the opportunity for me to help them to complete these assignments. They are also required to write more in grades 3-5 than they are used to writing in K-2. Now they have to write paragraphs and stories, not just a sentence or two. Most of my students struggle with spelling and often cannot read their own writing. My students can type their paragraphs and stories then use the spell check to help them correct or edit their writing assignments. Coming up with ideas can also take a lot of time for my students. So, the rest of the class is either editing and revising their final drafts while my students are just beginning to write or type their stories. Typing their stories and then editing and revising their stories with a Chromebook will provide my students to finish their assignments faster and not continue to get further behind the rest of the students.
