A Path for Kenroy
Funded Mar 3, 2021My Project: A Pathway for Kenroy
We needed a sensory pathway at Kenroy Elementary School. A sensory path is a colorful, creative, and playful way for kids to build sensory pathways, connections in the brain that are responsible for sight, touch, sound, etc., which enables kids to complete complex, multi-stage tasks. Sensory toys help them to relax, focus and calm down to a particular scenario or event. It helps them grasp things with decreased fear and discomfort and enables them to play naturally. After the stress of being out of school due to the global pandemic the kids came back with fears, anxiety and extra stress. Luckily we were able to help students with social emotional learning because of the help from Donors Choose and all of you. Students engaged in Social Emotional Learning are less aggressive and disruptive in school, have less emotional distress, and positive social behavior. The sensory paths gave students a chance to spend a few minutes of their school day walking, jumping, bouncing, and "pushing themselves through their distractions. This was such a needed break for our kids. I can't thank my donors enough. The impact made from this project was huge. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Funded Sep 2, 2019It is with great gratitude and appreciation I write this letter of impact. Our Building a Quad project is a work in progress! We have come a long way from the first vision of what we could potentially see in our schools courtyard. We have one table purchased and are hoping to add more soon. This project is one of necessity for our ever growing school population. Space is something that is impossible to come by. So we carved out a little and now because of you caring donation we are determined to make it our own.
Working as a RBT (Behavior Tech), my job entails working with the most challenging of behaviors. Having a place to go is essential. This project has helped me bond with our students and create long and meaningful relationships with those who need it the most. With help these students can excel in their education and grow pride within them self's. It has been more about getting an outdoor table for our courtyard and more about the bonds these students have made with me and each other at our school.
Table, the definition: 1. A piece of furniture with a flat top and one or more legs, providing a level surface on which objects can be placed, and that can be used for such purposes as eating, writing, working or playing games. For us this table is a place to gather, communicate, and exchange ideas, feeling and our inner most thoughts. This table is a place to grow and change as people and most importantly a place to learn about ourselves.
Again, thank you for your donation. The student's faces lit up with excitement when our table arrived. The student felt your caring hearts when I explained that donors have chosen to give us a table. Watching it be built was an exciting time for everyone at Kenroy adding to the welcome feel that a neighborhood school has to the students that call it home. This has enriched our school community and our students love for learning. The impact of your kind donation will be felt by many students for many years.”
