MakerSpaces is an area that allows the students to explore, be creative, and use materials and ideas a traditional classroom does not offer. In a blog, Makerspaces: The Benefits, Martinez and Stager (2013) stated that “When we allow children to experiment, take risks, and play with their ideas, we give them permission to trust themselves, and they begin to see themselves as learners who have good ideas and can transform their ideas into reality” (Makerspaces: The Benefits, n.d.; Martinez & Stager, 2013, p. 36).
Teachers do not have space and the materials available in their class to provide their students with opportunities to be creative and explore. Therefore a mobile maker space can help students utilize materials to further their learning in a subject or concept, while still providing space in their classroom. The mobile carts will allow all the elements to move from place to place, whether to a classroom or area in the hallway.
One cart will be geared towards Kindergarten and first-grade students. The cart will provide hands-on, exploratory materials for the students to create and build with. The students will be able to use their imagination and create unlimited possibilities. Teachers will be able to further lessons by having students show and explain a learning concept and assess the students understanding.
The other mobile makerspace will be created for students from second to third grade. The cart will include items for students to design and build. The students will be able to develop with consumable materials. They will have access to materials like whiteboards for designing/brainstorming, cardboard materials, various types of paper, scissors, glue, tape, string, etc.
The mobile makerspace carts will be created in hopes of having students excited to learn, explore, and create while preparing for their future endeavors.
