The Task Tubs will be used to encourage a play-based learning environment where students get to express their creativity through the use of engineering skills. These tubs promote social development, teamwork, and imaginative play. Task Tubs will be used first thing in the morning following breakfast and before dismissal at the end of the day. Students will be placed in small groups where they will work together and build using the media in their task tub. Research shows that the best way for elementary children to learn is through play and exploration. The community of children that I teach does not always have the opportunity or resources to engage in peer collaboration and creating together. The task tubs will help develop a sense of community and friendship amongst the students while promoting creativity and imaginative play.“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.” - O. Fred Donaldson
Our class would love to begin doing class book studies on a few fun books. It is important to encourage students to read by providing material that is relevant and engaging for them. Class book studies give everyone the opportunity to read and analyze what is taking place in the story. Class book studies promote classroom conversations allowing students and myself to share ideas. These books will aid in creating a print-rich classroom. New books are always wanted and appreciated in the classroom to allow my students to enjoy independent reading in their downtime.
