Flexible seating can help my students figure out how to take control of their learning. Most first graders learn better when they are happy. Adults do better in Professional Learning when they are comfortable so why would this premise not work better for kids too? My students love to choose where they sit during independent work. Other teachers at my school have tried this. I want to start it this year because I have noticed that the students in these flexible seating classrooms are more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers. The pencil beating will stop (which can bother other students). I have spent my personal money on some "Bargain Finds," but I need the rest of these choices to finish my Flexible Seating and do it right! The stools are a favorite of first graders. They are the ones that are usually chosen first. They allow the students to sit in a more comfortable position while still being able to rock slightly. They get the "wiggles" out. I have sat on them in other teachers' rooms as well so I know that they can hold a variety of sizes. The wobble cushions are great to be placed in a regular chair(which I already have). This is good if a student needs a back on a chair. It still give them the choice to sit somewhere "different" than a regular chair.
