This carpet is so essential for teaching, classroom management, and developing personal space. The carpet space would provide me the opportunity to do turn and talks and really gauge student understanding as I listen closely to all students' conversations. Sometimes when traveling the room (when students are at their desks) during turn and talks, it is difficult to visit every dyad and see if they are on the right track. This would provide me the opportunity to easily (re)direct students, and give each student the attention that they deserve. Furthermore, it provides structure for the students. Each student will have their assigned carpet space, and know the expectations on the carpet. Lastly, since I have younger students, they are still navigating personal space. The carpet provides a scaffold for this.
