The theme for my classroom is setting the Stage. for Success. The items. on my list are designed to motivate students. and to ensure that they are. comfortable in the classroom.
I have realized that students are more engaged when given choices on how to learn and be engaged in the classroom. Mostly all of students. work best and are less disruptive when they are provided with clipboards and comfortable seating to move around the classroom to complete their work.
Students will also be introduced to new reading and writing skills in 6th Grade Social Studies as we will also be incorporating novels into the course. Materials, such as flashcards, post-it notes, and highlighters, can assist students in breaking down challenging texts to analyze their reading, as there are students in the class with various reading levels.
Sixth grade is also a key time where students are learning important life skills, such as organization. Many middle schoolers struggle with organization as they are adjusting to having four classes a day. Therefore, files and bins for students to keep their work in, laminated materials, and visual schedules and times can assist students in staying on task and ensuring that their work is completed throughly and on time.
