Using multi-sensory learning and flexible seating is important for students with disabilities. Although I am working with young kids, I really believe that each of them can be driven and learn the new material with different approaches. The students want success and helping them master their goals is my goal. I want to give them the chance to practice in a non-traditional way and master new skills! Next, comfort in a learning environment is crucial. I believe that young students need different seating options. The school year just began, and I noticed they love stools that rock. This helps avoid falls, when they tip in the traditional chairs. Lastly, learners with disabilities can be successful if the right accommodation is put into place. Many students that I work with have developmental struggles. Talking is difficult. Holding a pencil is difficult. Decoding words is extremely difficult and encoding is reliant on decoding as well. These materials and alternative ways of learning will surely help my students achieve their annual goals, and help close the gap between the general education students and these great learners!
