As a first year teacher, I have found out rather quickly just how different a teacher funded classroom and a government classroom really are. My goals are and always have been to create a welcoming environment for my students as well as any others to come to to get away from anything else that might be going on. I aspire to create a learning environment in which my kids feel like they're in different yet comfortable world (through books of course). In order to do and obtain what I so badly want for my students, I need help when it comes to transforming and building up my classroom. Being in a rather old school with chalkboards, one of my biggest needs is a white board. Being able to lecture and write out my thoughts as well as my student's thoughts is a big thing for me. I strongly believe that seeing our thoughts written out will help others remember and learn. My classroom library is another huge factor that I hope soon becomes the center of my room. While I have some books, I do not have near enough YA novels to not only fill up my shelves but also appeal and represent my students. I strive to have books on my shelves that my students actually reach for, learn from, and relate to. Finally, what my classroom needs is help in the final transformation of adding some decoration. By adding graphic borders, plants, and even some unique posters, I feel like my students would both appreciate and want to come to my class. While I may be a first year English teacher, I am very excited and ready to put my ideas forward. Having my classroom space reflect that would be amazing, please help me make that possible!
