Turning to discuss ideas to a neighbor, questioning classmates, and sharing work is incorporated into nearly every lesson that is taught in my classroom. Students are constantly being asked to explore new ideas with partners and to work together to complete an assignment or project. Communication and collaboration are expectations of nearly every occupation. It is only fair that we give opportunities to our children so they can learn to do this effectively. With our new activity tables, students will easily be able to collaborate together while doing project-based learning, investigating new topics, and completing daily tasks. Project based learning and hands-on activities are things my students love and participate in frequently. One problem we regularly run into is having surfaces to work on. Students often end up sitting on the tile floor because there are currently not enough tables and putting desks together creates a rough surface to work on. Students work with others every day. Tables allow students to see each other better and sit closer while collaborating. This allows for student communication skills to grow and flourish. Since working with others is vital in the work force, I incorporate this as much as possible in daily lessons. These tables will allow for students to complete assignments more efficiently and comfortably.
