A rug in the classroom helps bring together the whole space and sets the tone for the room. I will specifically be using the rug to bring all of my students together in a circle to do many different things. One of the things I will be doing is holding morning meeting. A morning meeting is a great way to start the day off right and get everyone on the same page. It is also a way to build community in the classroom. Another thing I will be using my rug for is to help solve any issues in the classroom. Students can come to the rug as a whole class or as a pair and find a solution to the problem they may be having. So the rug will be serving as a safe space for conversation. Lastly, I will be using the rug to read pictures books to my students. This is an excellent way to have the class altogether and really focus in on a standard we will be working on. It's a great way to spark conversation about the book and have everyone in close proximity. A rug in our classroom will serve many purposes. What I am looking forward to the most is how it will serve as a community building space where we can all get to know each other and share our thoughts in a safe space.
