Beg and Borrow
Funded Nov 9, 2020Thank You. During this time of distance learning it is imperative to have lessons that engage students. Having this resource will allow me to see and use lessons that have been created by other teachers, tried in real classrooms and reviewed by other teachers.. These lessons often have digital and paper copies, and the projects are clearly presented in a way that students can see and understand the goal.”

Funded Sep 25, 2020Thank you! You gift will enable students who are working both at home and at school due to Covid with being able to access instruction and participation.
Students will be able to see examples, text, and other material presented in groups. It will also be able to be seen online for students who need to have it directly presented.
Than you again for your thoughtfulness.”

Funded Jul 6, 2019Thank you for the workbooks. The students have been enjoying that they are not having 'worksheets' but rather workbooks. They are not lost easily or torn up, students are able to look back at previous assignments to help with prior knowledge, and parents are able to have students work all in one place.
The "Painless Pre-Algebra" books have been a hit in the classroom. Students are using them for notes, like the fact that they can highlight important material, and the chapters have explanations that are easy to read and comprehend. The books provide clear examples (step by step) and have graphics that are enjoyable and student friendly.
Students have been using these resources as notes, study guides, and have been able to take them home and have parents and/or family help with the assignments. They have also been wonderful for my home bound students as both books are clearly written and allow students to self check as they work.”

Funded Aug 27, 2019There are certain things that are always in demand in a classroom (pencils, highlighters, a printer, etc.) and the resources that were sent are and have been used continually since they arrived.
I have always asked that students use a pencil when solving their math problems and many either forget theirs or need to sharpen during class (especially during instruction). Having boxes of pre-sharpened pencils at the ready have helped both my students be prepared and have lessened classroom disruptions (the sharpener). The printer in my room has allowed me to make 'that extra copy' when a student has lost theirs or needs a new one regardless of the reason. Students are grateful that they do not have to come back later in the day or can start work right away in case I miscounted when making a classroom set at the school copier.
The posters have made the room more inviting along with providing students with algebra references and formulas. I have noticed students getting up to look at the posters as a review for upcoming tests and even taking notes off them.”

Building My Teaching Bank
Funded Aug 29, 2019The books allowed me to create a scope and sequence to pilot a financial algebra class this second semester and to teach a year long course next year. I was able to compare books and create lessons that would be 'student friendly' and make them relevant to life outside high school.
After reading through several of the books I looked at common themes ( credit scores, budgeting, compound interest vs simple interest, etc) and created a survey for my seniors to take to track their personal interest in finances. I was then able to go through each book and look specifically for items that would peak their interest and allow them to use their algebraic concepts.
I use a highlight and make notes while I read. These notes act as an outline when creating the scope and sequence, along with generating guiding questions. The books also gave me additional resources to look at if I needed more information. Several of the books I have been leaving out for students to look through, as they enjoy the 'comic strip' examples and I have also projected them for class discussion.”

Visualize and Touch Math!
Funded Feb 17, 2020I appreciate the donations and generosity you have shown to my classroom. Hands on activities in math rooms are helpful and increase student motivation, participation, and learning.
Being able to build and visualize geometric principals (volume, perimeter, area) will help with retention. Students will also be able to use the modules to look at real world problems through building and construction which can lend to discussion on economy and conservation.
Thank you again.”

Funded Dec 3, 2019Thank you for your donation. My classes have been using notebooks that have fallen apart and taped several times over. This will be a great way to start the new year!
Not only do I and my students appreciate your gift, but their families and parents as well. High school students often need school supplies as the semester changes and after the holidays funds are tight for many families. This gift will brighten my classroom and help students stay organized.”
