Our classroom rug is the center of our learning in kindergarten. Some of the most valuable lessons that students learn take place during our morning meetings. Our rug is a gathering place where students have the freedom to share stories, tell their classmates about their lives, greet each other, and learn and grow together. Kindergarten is such a crucial age for children--students are learning how to communicate, improve social skills and work with one another--and our rug is where foundational language skills are built. Our classroom rug is not only utilized in morning meeting time, but throughout the school day. Our classroom rug is an inviting area where students come to explore, learn and discover. Students join at the rug to complete whole group math activities, such as learning about calendar and practice counting skills. Students complete science experiments such as discovering which objects sink or float, or which classroom objects are magnetic. Their imaginations run wild as they are able to gather together and listen to captivating read aloud stories that teach them the importance of citizenship and other content related tales. Donating to this cause not only helps my students have a comfortable area to learn, it will allow them to grow and prosper as a classroom family. Please consider helping these young students have the opportunity to come together in a colorful and inviting space.
