In the fall, the students will complete a novel study in conjunction with a historical and current events unit. Reading the novel will provide the students the opportunity to read and annotate a text, make connections with other historical documents, and complete a book and film tie-in and comparison. This novel study, of The Hate U Give, will allow the students to explore relevant topics and make connections to current events in America. The anchor text for the unit is the novel, The Hate U Give. It is my hope that this project will inspire students to discover their self-identity and raise consciousness about their community and spark a desire for activism.
