Imagine students gathered around a table. Sitting on the edge of their seats. Anticipating the air horn start signal. In the middle of the table is a pile of materials & tools to be used to solve a mystery -- composition notebook, small boxed locked, a backpack with a 3 digit number ring lock, old photo graphs, etc. When the horn sounds a flurry of activity begins. Everyone and I do mean everyone is up and sifting through the materials looking for a starting point. Not only do they want to solve the mystery but they want to WIN the competition. As an observer, you hear "How is this a clue? " "What have we learned that can help us?" "I found a black light." "Is this the combination for that lock?" "Look at this. Could that be the code key?" Enthusiasm and all-out engagement are in process.
