The Basics for Academic Achievement and Mental Wellness
Funded Aug 14, 2024I do not have enough words to express my gratitude for the donations I received for my students to have a successful start for the 2024-2025 School year. The materials from DonorsChoose are helping us with our organization, routines, showcasing students' work, and keeping our classroom neat and tidy.
The dots are really helping the students to organized. They love lining up on the floor dots as they line up to leave the classroom. The colorful, numbered dots on the laptops help them to identify their laptops. When they are getting and returning their laptops, they know exactly where to put them.
The cork strips help me to display the students work and other classroom posters easily and quickly. What a time saver for me.
The handheld vacuum cleaner is such a personal helper in the classroom. As soon as we have pencil shavings or other little messes on the floor, the trusty vacuum cleaner is ready to help!
The other items for this project are all great additions to our classroom to help us stay organized for academic achievement and mental wellness.
Thank you again for your generous donations to my classroom.
I am truly blessed to have DonorsChoose supporting my classroom.”

Funded Dec 5, 2023Thank you for helping to bring the world at the fingertips of my students! My fabulous group of First Graders are learning about themselves and others with Bucket Filling from A-Z: The Key to Being Happy. This book is definitely helping my students to understand their emotions and spread goodwill to others.
The vivid illustrations in the book allow students to understand adjectives and how descriptive language adds life to their own writing. The illustrations also give them a glimpse of the clothing that some cultures wear.
I've been able to use the book to review verbs, nouns, sentence structure, vocabulary, capitalization, opposites, and rhymes.
The students enjoy reading their books to each other and in groups. They love when they are randomly selected to read one of the letters of their choice to the class.
Thank you again for your generous donation to this classroom project. You are making a significant contribution to literacy and nurturing the whole child of all the students in my class.”

Funded Dec 5, 2023I am deeply grateful for your donation to my classroom.
My students were very excited with their hard cover book, The ABCs of Kindness! It was a perfect addition to our lesson in January when we discussed the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how people extend kindness to each other because of his teachings.
The students learned to identify rhyming words from the text and use those words in their writing. We also took a deep dive into phonics lessons as they read the book.
As part of our discussions, students shared how they show kindness to others and the kind acts they have received. One student eagerly shared that the books we received from DonorsChoose was an act of kindness for our classroom. My heart just burst with joy when I heard those words!
Thank you very much for your generous donation to this book project. Thank you for believing in the work I do with my students every day. You are making huge difference in their lives. Kindness is shining through in my classroom!”

Funded Nov 28, 2023The universal emotion of joy was truly evident in my classroom when my students opened their gift bags and took out the gifts! Their faces lit up with smiles and I knew in my heart that once again I did the right thing by reaching out to the DonorsChoose community with my project. My sincere gratitude to all the donors who brought so much joy to my students.
When the boxes arrived, I opened them without showing the children – I shared that there were lots of surprises for them from DonorsChoose. They waited patiently for the day for the big reveal.
They were all delighted to wear their Santa hats during the holiday performance at our school. They looked so cute!
Before the students decorated their brown gift bags, we talked about same and different and how we all have similarities and differences, and these characteristics make us unique and special. This was evident in the way each student decorated his or her bag – the bags were all different, but special and unique.
The students took turns reading sentences from the book, they made drawings with their magnetic drawing boards, compared their slap bracelets, and had lots of fun with the other gifts. During all of this, we talked about our similarities and differences and the joy we were experiencing.
Thank you, DonorsChoose for your generous support, your dedication to my classroom, and for bringing immense joy to my students. You have made a positive impact on the well-being of my students' lives.”

Funded Aug 15, 2023The birthday bags are a big hit in my classroom!
At this time of the school year, we've only celebrated three students' birthdays and they all loved the special treats and school supplies that they received.
I am very grateful for your generous donations you've given to bring this project to life. I completed each gift bag with a book – everything else came from you. I cannot say enough how much you are impacting my classroom! Had it not been for your donations, the students would not have received so many treats on their birthdays.
Each student went home with their birthday bags feeling extra special and with some extra smiles on their faces too.
The other students whose birthdays are coming are eagerly awaiting their birthday bags!
Many thanks again for your donations and for the positive impact you are making in my classroom. Thank you for believing in the work that I do.”

Funded Aug 4, 2023I am deeply grateful to you for your donations that helped me to begin the school year with ease and a high level of preparedness for my First-Grade students.
From the moment they walked into the classroom, they stepped into success! Your generous contributions have set the tone for us, teacher and students to begin the school year with ease.
We are using all the supplies daily in the classroom. My students love using the privacy folders when they are taking tests. They like having a specific space for their headphones. I also take pride in sharing with my colleagues that DonorsChoose gave us many gifts to start out the school year.
At Open House, I dedicated time to talk about DonorsChoose and all the supplies we had already gotten for the classroom. The parents were very happy that their children have been gifted with such generosity.
I feel truly blessed that I am able to count on the generosity of the DonorsChoose community to support my classroom. Many thanks again for helping us to have a great start to the school year.”

Funded Aug 2, 2023Many thanks for your generous donations that helped me to create a welcoming classroom for my students from the first day of school.
A nurturing classroom is important for everyone who enters it, but it is most important for my students who spend most of their day in the classroom.
The materials I received have really enhanced the teaching and learning environment. My classroom is inviting and nurturing for my students – it is their home away from home.
When my students are doing their "read around the room", they stay the longest at our growth mindset bulletin board and this makes my heart very happy.
Thank you again for your support and for believing in what I do every day I step into my First-Grade classroom. I am blessed to be a DonorsChoose recipient.”

Funded Jul 27, 2023Recently, one of my colleagues commented about the quiet manner in which my students entered the classroom and before I could respond, she added, "I believe it has to do with what you do with them every day after lunch". She was referring to the mindful breathing practices that we do daily. That was a defining moment for me as a teacher because her comment solidified that my goal of bringing calm and focus to my students through mindfulness is happening.
On World Mental Health Day, a group of my students were featured in a special school news presentation in which they used their expandable breathing balls to practice deep breathing. This short presentation was impactful for other students because my colleagues have shared with me that they have begun to practice deep breathing to bring calm and focus with their students.
I capture my students' attention easily with the soft and gentle sounds of the chime. They love listening to the fading notes each time I use it. I've learned about the value of the chimes from the mindfulness workshops I attend, so the chime is very much a part of our daily practice.
The diffuser with the essential oils add serenity to the classroom environment. The Clorax wipes, and the Kleenex definitely help to keep our mindfulness treasures clean.
I am deeply grateful to Ravi Ramjit for bringing this classroom project to life.
Thank you for believing in DonorsChoose. Thank you for believing in the work that I do each day I step into the classroom to nurture and educate young children.”

Building Literacy Skills and Staying Organized With a Label Maker
Funded Aug 2, 2023I am truly grateful for this gift of a label maker for my First Grade class! It is helping us to stay organized and keep things in place in the classroom.
My ESOL Students are benefiting greatly from this tool because it is easy and quick for me to print the labels to place around the room. For example each student's desk has labels showing the LEFT and RIGHT side of the desk. These labels help the students to keep specific items in their desks on a designated side.
Each time my students read a label, they are strengthening their reading muscles and literacy skills.
Thank for again for supporting my classroom and for believing in the work that I do every day for my students.”

Funded Jul 3, 2023I am truly grateful for all the donations I received for my First-Grade students to start off the new school year! My boxes of gifts arrived in time for me to prepare my classroom.
Every item that I received is enhancing the classroom environment, keeping us organized, and helping us to stay healthy.
The Welcome Back to School backdrop is hanging in our hallway outside of the classroom, not just for my class, but for all students. A few of my colleagues took "first day" pictures of their classes with the backdrop.
Parents and students loved receiving the postcards!
The item that is quite exciting for the students is the doorbell! They just loving announcing, "someone is at the door", whenever it rings.
At Open House, I shared with parents how fortunate we are to get gifts from DonorsChoose for our classroom. In my PowerPoint presentation, I had a slide just about DonorsChoose!
I feel truly blessed that I am able to count on the generosity of the DonorsChoose community to support my classroom. Many thanks again for helping us to have a great start to the school year.”
