I am deeply grateful for your generous donations to my classroom project! Your generosity will certainly make an impact on all the boys and girls in my classroom. • Be Joyful with STEM while being the Same and Different

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

It was a delightful time in the classroom when my students opened up their bags and took out all their gifts! Their faces lit up with smiles and I knew in my heart that I did the right thing by reaching out to the DonorsChoose community with my project. My sincere gratitude to all the donors who brought so many smiles to my students.

We started off with our conversation about same and different and how we all have similarities and differences, and these characteristics make us unique and special. This was evident in the way each student decorated his or her bag – the bags were all different, but special and unique.

The students took turns reading sentences from the book "We're the Same, We're Different" as a class, in groups, and in pairs. It was a wonderful way for them to understand the concept of same and different. A we read the book, we discussed that some of the characters might be scientist just as they are young budding scientist. They used the STEM kits to create 3-D designs in our science exploration time. They helped each other, the enhanced their designs by adding more pieces or taking away pieces. It was such joy to watch them explore, engineer, and create 3-D designs that were the same and different.

Thank you, DonorsChoose for your generous support, your dedication to my classroom, and for bringing such rich experiences as they explored science, technology, engineering and math. You have made a positive impact on the well-being of my students' lives.”

  • Technology – Let’s Cut The Clutter and Save Time

    Funded Oct 7, 2024

I am deeply grateful for the donation of the laptop charging stations I received for my students this school year. What a difference they have made in the classroom for us.

At our school, we started using laptops for all students since Covid19 and since that time I've experienced cluttered, tangled cords, and frustration with the laptops. Now, there is such ease in the classroom!

The charging stations are keeping the laptops, cords, and adapters in place. Everything is neat, tidy, and organized. The students and I are not losing time trying to untangle cluttered cords. When they are ready to engage with their computer-based learning programs, they retrieve their laptops quickly and with ease. What a time saver for us!

I'm also grateful for the assistance from a parent volunteer and two staff members who assembled the stations for us. They also share in my gratitude for the donors who contributed to this project.

My current students, my future students and I will enjoy these computer charging stations for many years. Thank you again for your generous donations that made this gift possible for us. Thank you for believing in what I do for my students.”

  • The More You Learn, the More You Earn!

    Funded Sep 18, 2024

Every day in school is one day closer to college!

Many, many thanks for your generosity to my classroom project. The students love receiving their attendance prizes! When I pull names at random, they eagerly wait for their names to be called.

The incentives helped to motivate children to be present on time and all day long in school. My system of awarding incentives at random, every two weeks, and when we completed 17 days of Perfect Attendance made the students so happy and proud to be in school.

When I told my class that I will adjust the incentive system to give each student a treat when we have 10 days instead of 17 days of Perfect Attendance, they all gave me a round of applause. They love their incentives! Of course, I reminded them that DonorsChoose made this program possible for our classroom

    .

Many thanks again for your belief in the work that I do with my students every day. I am truly grateful for your support and generosity.

When students are present in school, they learn more, and they are one day closer to college!”

  • Money Management in First Grade

    Funded Sep 17, 2024

Our classroom store is vibrant and exciting!

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donations to our classroom store. Thank you for believing in the work I do every day with my students. Your donations are helping to enhance the "real world" lessons and provide the students with valuable learning opportunities.

The students love to earn tickets and save them in their ticket tins (gifted to us by DonorsChoose donors a couple of years ago). On shopping days, they get so excited to "shop" in the store. With my supervision, two students collect and count the "money" while one student manages the store. The manager makes sure that students are choosing wisely. Some students who do not have enough tickets to purchase an item save their tickets for a later time, while others want to spend all of their earnings! Students also love to shop for their families.

Your generous donations have helped to maintain our hands-on store that reflects real-world economic situations and teaches my students important concepts such as budgeting, saving, and spending wisely.

Recently, guest speakers from a bank visited our classroom and they were quite impressed with how my students expressed their understanding of saving and spending.

Thank you once again for your kindness and commitment to supporting my students' growth and success. Your generosity is making a significant difference in their lives and helping them prepare them for a financially responsible future.”

  • A Printer for Eager Learners

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

I want to express my heartfelt thanks for the reliable black and white printer and ink you donated to my classroom! I was able to return the printer I borrowed from my friend as soon as our tech support team installed the DonorsChoose printer. Your generosity is making a huge difference in the classroom.

With this new printer, we now have a reliable and readily available resource for printing important notes to send to parents, reports, and other essential teaching and learning needs. It is also saving me time and making it easier for printing weekly classroom documents.

I am blessed by the kindness and supportive spirit of donors like you who understand the importance of gifting public school teachers like me with the tools teachers and students need to succeed. Your gift is a shining example of this, and I am so grateful for your contributions.

Please know that your thoughtfulness and support mean the world to me and all of my students. We are all so thankful for your kindness and generosity. Thank you again for the printer and ink.”

  • Building Compassion And Empathy In The First Grade

    Funded Jul 29, 2024

The ABC's of Emotions is a wonderful book to teach compassion and empathy! My young students fell in love with the book straightaway. I am deeply grateful to all the donors who helped to bring my project to a fully funded status. Your generosity is beyond measure.

In addition to learning about emotions that we all share and experience, my students reviewed and learned skills that support the foundational skills of reading. For example, they reviewed the letters of the alphabet, identified rhyming words, increased their punctuation knowledge, and read the high frequency words they are learning.

My students enjoyed reading their books in groups, in pairs, and by themselves. When they read in groups, I asked them to decide who would start off the reading circle and my heart was full when I saw how well they did it. Were they able to read fluently? No, I attended to each group to assist with words they didn't know and modeled fluency. My English-speaking students helped their peers who are now acquiring English with care and kindness. I admired the way the worked together as they read the book.

We also read the ABC's of Emotions as a class and discussed each emotion as we progressed throughout the book. Without hesitation, children shared freely about some of the emotions. Children were fully engaged in a trusting environment.

Learning and teaching about compassion and empathy are ongoing lessons in life and it is my goal to keep on doing it with my students and for myself.

Thanks again to all the donors who believe in what I do for the students in my classroom.”

  • The Basics for Academic Achievement and Mental Wellness

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

I do not have enough words to express my gratitude for the donations I received for my students to have a successful start for the 2024-2025 School year. The materials from DonorsChoose are helping us with our organization, routines, showcasing students' work, and keeping our classroom neat and tidy.

The dots are really helping the students to organized. They love lining up on the floor dots as they line up to leave the classroom. The colorful, numbered dots on the laptops help them to identify their laptops. When they are getting and returning their laptops, they know exactly where to put them.

The cork strips help me to display the students work and other classroom posters easily and quickly. What a time saver for me.

The handheld vacuum cleaner is such a personal helper in the classroom. As soon as we have pencil shavings or other little messes on the floor, the trusty vacuum cleaner is ready to help!

The other items for this project are all great additions to our classroom to help us stay organized for academic achievement and mental wellness.

Thank you again for your generous donations to my classroom.

I am truly blessed to have DonorsChoose supporting my classroom.”

  • Reading Brings the World to Our Fingertips

    Funded Dec 5, 2023

Thank you for helping to bring the world at the fingertips of my students! My fabulous group of First Graders are learning about themselves and others with Bucket Filling from A-Z: The Key to Being Happy. This book is definitely helping my students to understand their emotions and spread goodwill to others.

The vivid illustrations in the book allow students to understand adjectives and how descriptive language adds life to their own writing. The illustrations also give them a glimpse of the clothing that some cultures wear.

I've been able to use the book to review verbs, nouns, sentence structure, vocabulary, capitalization, opposites, and rhymes.

The students enjoy reading their books to each other and in groups. They love when they are randomly selected to read one of the letters of their choice to the class.

Thank you again for your generous donation to this classroom project. You are making a significant contribution to literacy and nurturing the whole child of all the students in my class.”
