Picture this, an 11th grade student so engrossed in a book that they didn't hear the bell ring for the next period. Two 12th grade students quietly working together on a class project with laptops on their lap and library books scattered about them on the floor. Picture a 7th grade student reading a graphic novel by herself when a shy 10th grader walks over to her, sits down, and strikes up a conversation about that novel that they read a couple years ago; the conversation lasts all period. This is what our students need in order to feel comfortable in the library and ignite their brains to inquire, be inclusive, to collaborate, to curate, to explore, and to become engaged in what they are doing. This is what our library should look and feel like. Our library currently is very traditional; a great space but in need of some changes in order to help create a Future Ready Library. By adding comfortable seating students will then in turn feel more comfortable in the library. They will want to be there and the library will start to feel like a safe space that they can feel free to be themselves, to work on projects, or to just take a moment to read that book they always wanted to read but couldn't find time for. Comfortable seating will open the doors to the library once more and start making it feel like the "hub" of the school again.
