I always invite my students to come and sit on the rug when I pull them up to my ENL room. I want them to come into my room and see bright colors and know that this is a safe space and a room that is all their own. I want them to sit with other ENL students that they will learn from and become friends with. I also want to respect their culture and their personal space which is why an extra large rug would be beneficial. I sit on the rug with my kids so I can get to know them and they can get to know me. This is where we learn to be a school family.
