  • Sensory Driven Learning

    Funded Nov 7, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my students. These kids are truly some of the best kids and are so motivated to learn. I know that providing them with tools tailored to their specific needs is just going to continue to foster that desire to learn. I feel honored to teach them and feel blessed with a community that helps me do everything I can for them. I can not say thank you enough for pouring into the lives of my Tiny Champions!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Caley

  • Free to Move, Free to Learn!

    Funded Aug 2, 2019

The first day of school my students walked into a fully furnished flexible seating classroom. My students really enjoy getting to learn in a class filled with movement. My students have quickly found the ideal flexible seating that helps them learn and stay focused. I teach a class filled with multiple ability groups and this seating helps 2 ways. It helps to bridge the gap for those unable to focus sitting normally, as well as showing that we all learn differently and that is OK. I have had my administrators mention on multiple occasions this year that when they visit my class, all of my students are engaged and enjoying their learning. I can not thank you all so much for your support. You are helping me daily to shape these young minds and make learning fun.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Caley

Other than whole group time, I allow my students to go where they are able to do their best. The new area rug will be a place where my students can sit during our whole group lesson and where they will be able to comfortably work on their independent reading as well as other assignments. The stools will be utilized during small group time where my students will be engaged in hands on lessons. The wobble stools and cushions will provide students with a tool to help them stay focused through movement. Did you know that students that use tools such as, wobble stools, wiggle bands, and other flexible seating options throughout the year get to utilize these tools on the day of their standardized test? Not only is this a big deal to keep students focused and motivated on a daily basis, but it is also a tool they can use on their biggest assessment of third grade. Do you remember 3rd grade? Do you remember sitting and listening all day? I do. As a child with ADHD, I remember that school was always very difficult for me. Sitting still and being forced to work like everyone else when that's not how my brain worked was torture and made feel inferior and resent education. I became an educator to empower students with special needs. Not just the students that have learning disabilities but also those with learning difficulties due to their impulsivity, struggles with attention, as well as other struggles. I feel giving them the power of choice through movement in our classroom is a way to do this.
