Picture books are so important to kids. They help kids to make sense of the world around them. They help them explore topics that are new and maybe scary. They help them to make connections in their world. And kids need to see themselves and others in the literature they are exposed to, that is why it is so important to have a diverse library of picture books. Now, more than ever, the importance of exposure to diversity for all students has become very clear. We need to expose all kids to different kinds of people and cultures in a positive way. In the time of online learning and COVID, there is no better way to do that than through diverse literature and high-quality read-alouds. By funding this project you will provide these opportunities for the kids in my class, as well as all the kids in my classes in the years to come.
