Although the materials won't arrive until after the start of the next school year, please know that they will be put to good use as soon as they arrive.

  • Wobbly Chairs for Autistic Students

    Funded Oct 12, 2019

I want to thank you for the wobbly chairs. When the packages first arrived in my classroom, my students were all excited to see what was inside. As I opened up the packages and started assembling the chairs, I explained to my students what the chairs were for and how they worked. They couldn't wait to use the chairs and as soon as I had assembled the first one, one of my students ran over and sat on it.

The chairs have helped immeasurably in my classroom. My students all have autism and struggle to stay on task, especially during whole group instructional time. The wobbly chairs give the students something to do during learning time. They can sway the chairs back and forth or fiddle with them. This allows my students to sit down for longer periods of time and get back on task quicker. As an example, one of my students used to get up and walk around about 5 minutes into instructional time. Since I got the chairs, he is now able to sit for about 20-30 minutes before getting the need to walk around.

Once again, thank you for much for your donation. I hope you all have a very happy holiday season!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. D'Antoni

My students all have autism. This makes it difficult to concentrate for long periods of time. When they are not able to concentrate, my students usually like holding something in their hands and play with it. Some examples of this include unsharpened pencils, erasers, or toy cars. Wobbly chairs will give them something to play around with when they feel the need while remaining seated. They will remaining seated during learning time and will be able to concentrate on what they are learning instead on whatever toy or object is in their hands. Any amount that you can donate will be very greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
