Our students attend an inner city middle school. Poverty is high in my neighborhood; about 93% of our students are classified as economically disadvantaged. Their ability to own or rent an instrument is highly unlikely. Music for many is their opportunity to grow not only intellectually but also emotionally. It also is the key that brings them back to school day after day.
