Weekly literacy bags, filled with preschool themed books and corresponding activities, will be sent home each week with students and their families. In addition, a list of key topics, vocabulary and extension ideas will be included to helpguide families on how to develop a love of reading and early literacy skills at this important age. It is imperative to our Deaf students and their families that we build a love of reading and start to develop pre-literacy skills at this age in order to break the cycle of limited literacy abilities in adulthood. Our population of students often have very limited resources at home and do not have language-rich materials easily available to them in the home environment. These Literacy bags will help provide materials to the family and provide support in fostering their child's academic readiness skills.
