In a Pre-K learning environment, the carpet is the most useful piece of furniture in the classroom. I introduce most instructional activities on the carpet. We use the carpet during our morning meeting, large group lessons, and story time. The children also sit on the carpet during quiet time while they are reading books. The library area in my classroom is on the carpet as well. Occasionally, a few children place their own mats on the carpet when they lay down during nap time. For these reasons, I believe my students deserve a new carpet. It is an integral part of my classroom. Currently, the carpet we own is old and dirty. Sometimes I can even smell it.
I structure my classroom environment around energy and enthusiasm. In my Pre-K teaching experience, I have found that focusing on individuality and growth encourages my young children to achieve their full potential. My students are able to connect with their peers who all come from different backgrounds, which enhances social emotional skills. My students are learning about different cultures and languages. Celebrating uniqueness helps students learn to accept everyone while instilling self-confidence in themselves. I challenge students through structured intentional activities based on the children’s interests. Through these activities, I expose students to the worlds of literature, technology, science, math, and art. I love to see my children grow and get ready for kindergarten. A fresh carpet will feel more inviting for my students’ as they gain magical learning experiences every day.
