Many of us remember what it is like to start a new school year with fresh pencils, brand new crayons with nice, sharp points, glue, scissors and a pencil case of our own to hold our "stuff." These are the basics to any grade- yet, many of my students this year did not come to school with some of these things. They shared with a friend or borrowed from our school supply. It would be such a great feeling for them if they could come in and have everything they needed right from the first day. The pencil cases would give them a sense of ownership for their materials and foster an understanding of responsibility for their belongings. Headphones are essential in classrooms that utilize computers. They minimize distraction and help students remained focused on the academic material presented to them. They also would be available for those students who may need music to calm down or focus without disturbing the rest of the class. It doesn't take much to make a successful classroom. You need a caring teacher and eager students. Please consider helping me start my students off on the right foot this September!
