I am going to be starting this next school year at a brand-new school in a grade I have never taught before: kindergarten. I will be working at a very diverse school with a large ELL population as well as many African American children. I am asking for many diverse books to read to my students or that they can read themselves. I also want to use these books to start important conversations in our classroom. It is very important for students to be able to see themselves in the texts they read or that are read to them. It is important for them to know that they have a place in this world and that they have value.
