  • Fine Motor Skills Help to Set Solid Foundation

    Funded Nov 22, 2020

Thank you so much for generous donation to our classroom. We are so grateful for the items that we received and they are helping to develop fine motor skills all while making learning fun and meaningful.

The students were so excited to see all the items that we received and everyone can't wait until it's their turn to use the donated items.

We are using the materials to develop fine motor skills. We are also using the items to learn sight words. We use the alphabet play-doh set to stamp the words, the wind up chicks will hop to a sight word and then the student will read the word. These are just a couple of the learning stations that have been implemented with our donated items.

Thank you again for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brooks

  • Diverse Books as Mirrors For Students

    Funded Jul 10, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students have loved listening to the different stories about cultures that they didn't know existed. We have read books about Arabic quilts, hummus sandwiches and .

We always read together and then have discussions about the content of the book. We have been able to talk about different languages that people speak, food, and clothes that are unique to different cultures. My students are also enjoying conversations on the true spirit of tolerance and acceptance.

Students are so excited to see themselves in these books and have also loved being able to compare/contrast themselves to the characters.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brooks

This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org and 4 other donors.
The diverse selection of books will help my students to be able to see themselves in books. This is so important for young students so that they are able to identify with the characters and see themselves as those characters. These books will allow them to make those connections and relate to books which I hope will make them into lifelong readers. These books will also help my students to have a different perspective. I want to teach my students that we are not all alike and that we need to respect others for these differences. I want them to respectfully have conversations and ask questions and I will use these books as a springboard for those conversations.
