I am first year teacher looking to provide my students with an engaging and exciting environment and curriculum. I have selected a variety of items for both student use and the classroom. Many of my students come from low income families with a high percentage of them being Spanish speaking families. My hope is to provide my students with all the opportunities and supplies of wealthier students from wealthier communities. I want to impact my students' learning by providing them with tools to make their learning interactive and engaging. I have purchased some materials on my own for students to create interactive notebooks and use Doodle Notes. However, they still need some additional supplies to make the notebooks more personal and to allow for my students to feel ownership over their work. So I have included on my list items like glue sticks, scissors, and colored pencils. I believe the environment in which students learn is as important as how the content is presented. I want students to have opportunities to move around the room and in their seats. This is made possible with flexible seating choices like the stools and balls on my list. Lastly, I believe that reading is the foundation for all skills and while I will be teaching math & science I plan to incorporate as much reading in my lessons as possible. For this reason I have included several books specializing in math and science topics, as well as, a few read alouds. One more special item on this list is a circuit kit. I believe hands-on activities grab students attention and make the content stick. This is the first of many interactive items I plan to have in my classroom.
