Even in high school, many students find space a challenge. This is especially true when attempting to draw graphs with evenly spaced values. College rule paper only helps organize horizontal lines and spacing but not vertical spacing. To help these students focus more on the mathematics and less on the organization and spacing, I would like to use graph ruled or quad ruled paper notebooks (basically graph paper notebooks) for the students in my 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade classrooms. This means I would like quad ruled notebooks for 3 classes of 32 students or almost 100 students.
At my previous school, many foreign exchange students would come to my class with their quad-ruled notebook, and I was impressed because most were using it to solve equations, make graphs, write vocabulary, and take notes with efficiency. I noticed and valued their decision to use this superior type of notebooks, hoping that I could incorporate that into my class.
I can envision students wrapping up an example problem in their notes that requires a scatter plot and table. With college rule paper, I would either need to pass out Chromebooks or pass out graph paper to each student. In either case, extra time would be spent passing out materials, and the scatter plot would not be next to the problem it was needed for, and most likely wouldn't be saved or kept as a resource for studying. With quad rule paper, Students can immediately transition from the example problem to a scatter plot with ease, and it will be safely stored in their notebook for future use.
