Often in the Ceramics Art Classroom, we are limited to the glazes that come from our school district's supply room and many times, those glaze colors don't matchup with the imaginations of my ceramic students.
Opening the kiln after a glaze fire should be as exciting and surprising for my students as opening a pirate's treasure chest! The pieces within should shine, swirl, and glow with every color of the rainbow!
With the glazes and underglazes on my list, my students would be able to bring their project ideas to life using the full spectrum of colors. They will also be able to experiment with different glazing techniques, such as layering or mixing glazes, or doing sgraffito and "painting" with underglazes.
