Tools for Educational Success
Funded May 28, 2020We are so thankful for the books, games, and many school supplies that I was able to purchase with your generous donations. Due to covid this year, so many things that we can normally share in class now have to be kept as individual supplies. For students and teachers, this also meant that we would need separate supplies for our ART class as well. Thankfully, with my grant money I was able to purchase supplies for ART so that we do not have to pack and unpack each time. Supplies then last longer in both ART and in class. It saves time not having to round up ART supplies each week as well.
The many different games I was able to purchase give students a fun way to learn in class to reinforce skills. Students like getting a break from a worksheet, the computer, or even just sitting in their seats to play a great game with friends. This helps me to see not only what they know but how they interact with each other.
BOOKS! Books! and more Books! We are not allowed to go to the library still. We have to request books. For third graders that have to do a search on the computer, this becomes a daunting task unless they are an avid reader. Having a colorful, up-to-date and wide ranging library in class helps me to get students to read and build a life-long learner.”

Funded May 5, 2020I welcomed back my students with my Camp Read-A-Lot Theme ready to roll. We had all of our books to read together thank to our grant. The books allowed the children to share their many funny vacation stories and gave us a neat way to get to know each other. One of our books that we read was about Fireflies. One of our crafts that you see the children holding before we painted are their firefly jars. They loved the fact that they glowed in the dark and also had a tea light inside as well. We made tent shape photos for our door and sent one home for Mom and Dad to keep too. We also enjoyed making humungous smores. Since we are not allowed to have a campfire at school, we did the next best thing and had smore fondue. The kids loved it.
We learned lots of fun facts about Teddy Roosevelt and how important he was in setting how America's National Park System. We used map skills to find the places mentioned in his journeys that later became National Parks. We went on Virtual Field Trips to the National Parks and enjoyed the many beautiful sites in America.
Thank you for allowing me to take my students camping this first week and getting them off to a great start with Reading. By making Reading fun and exciting, I hope to encourage all of my students to become life-long readers”

Funded Jun 1, 2020What a wonderful week at Camp Read-A-Lot!! We read Camping Spree with Mr. Magee to kick off our first day. We each designed our campers and loaded them with items we had to have for our adventure in our writings. The next day, we read about Fireflies at Night and learned about Bioluminescence not just in fireflies but in other animals as well. We made our firefly jars which turned out great. We had to take turns going into the restroom and turning off the lights to see just how great they could glow in the dark. Mid-week, we read The Camping Trip that Changed America. This allowed us to bring in map skills for our countries amazing National Parks. Our final book for the was Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping. We made GIGANTIC S'Mores ate them of course and then wrote an Acrostic poem to describe all the ooey, gooey yumminess! Each day was packed with a camping adventure that my students enjoyed reading and also learning about. Thank you for giving me the means to provide them with this great opportunity. I do believe they might be asking their parents to go camping soon even if it is only in their own back yards. We truly had the best week. I am looking forward to seeing where this learning adventure takes us this year. Stay tuned for more great ideas.

Critical Thinking Skills Through "Osmo"sis
Funded Dec 3, 2019Thank you for taking the time to donate to my classroom. Although our current year did not end the way we expected, while we were in class we made great use of all the materials provided to enhance our learning experience. By having access to Osmos, it allows my students to practice skills even when computers may not be available to us. Every minute of every day is valuable and I always strive to meet a child's needs and expectations. Osmos are just one more way to help reach students and watch them soar!
Thank you again!”

Funded Aug 3, 2019Have you ever had to sit in a seat quietly for more than 6 hours?? Well students in my class are allowed to move and groove with their new wobble seats. These seats are light- weight, easy to move but also provide students with the ability to slightly move or wobble as needed.... there may also be a spin every now and then. They can use the seats to move and transition to reading group, seat work or partner work with ease. They are also easy to store. They are a definite hit with my students!
We also received Bouncy Bands for those times like testing or direct instruction when students are seated in a normal student desk. These bands allow students movement by quietly bouncing their feet on the bands at the front of their desk without being disruptive. It solves their need for movement and helps them to focus as well! Another great idea!!!
Thank you again donors for helping out our classroom and my students! By providing students with unique opportunities to move around and be seated in more comfortable seats, each one of them will be more successful and their ability levels will increase along with confidence. Another priceless gift generated by your donations! We appreciate your generosity in helping us reach our goal!!”

Funded Jun 7, 2019My students were so excited to get package, unload our QBall and speakers, to get them up and working!! We have found so many different uses for them in our every day classroom life. They are able to hear me better when teaching or reading aloud. Students can hear and focus better because they can hear each other better. More students want to interact so they can use the QBall! We have also used it to increase the volume of science videos and movies that were previously difficult to hear. So can you hear me now? The answer is YES!! We can and we are very grateful to each and every donor that helped us reach our goal to purchase the materials needed for this grant!! You made it possible for us to clearly hear and share with each other! That is a priceless gift!”
