  • Poetry for All!

    Funded Jun 4, 2023

Your generosity brought new poetry books to my classroom and that had a significant impact on my students. Prior to the project, many of my students had limited exposure to poetry and were hesitant to engage with it. However, once the books arrived, they eagerly flipped through the pages, discussing the different styles and themes they encountered.

As we delved deeper into the poetry books, I noticed a marked improvement in my students' reading and writing skills. They began to experiment with different poetic forms and techniques, using them to express their own thoughts and emotions. Even my most reluctant readers and writers were inspired by the books. Thank you again for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ross

  • Books for Struggling Readers

    Funded Jan 10, 2022

I am so grateful for you donation to my classroom library. As part of our daily routine and overall school culture, students spend a portion of each lesson reading books they want to read; however some of my students weren't participating because they weren't matched appropriately with the literature. In response to that, I created this project to obtain books for my struggling readers.

The moment the box of books were delivered to my classroom, students immediately wanted to borrow them. Even now, the books are in constant demand and it makes me so happy to see students truly enjoy reading.

Your donation is truly shaping young readers. When students are matched appropriately with the correct level of books, their confidence in reading grows along with their eagerness to explore new and exciting books.”

    With gratitude,

  • Support Holocaust Education and Reading Through Anne Frank's Diary

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

I want to express my sincere thanks to you for your generous donation to this project. As we embark on the Spring Term, my students are excited to begin reading Anne Frank's diary, which directly connects to lessons they are learning in Global History about the holocaust. As an ELA teacher, I'm always striving to support my students in building strong connections to the topics they are learning about.

In fact, my classroom routine includes independent reading at the beginning of each class, where students have choice in what they read. In anticipation for our upcoming unit, quite a few students have decided to independently read the graphic novel version of Anne Frank's Diary.

Thank you again for your generosity! By donating to this project, you are not only supporting my students, but also supporting holocaust education.”

  • Poetry for All!

    Funded Mar 2, 2020

Thanks to your generation donation, I was able to add some wonderful poetry books to my growing classroom library.

Since starting daily independent reading this past year, I have watched students discover that reading is not just fun, but it is also a tool for self-discovery; reading stories that we connect to can also help us learn about ourselves, especially poetry.

After receiving these poetry books at the beginning of March, students devoured them immediately. Sadly, Covid-19 happened, and many of these books were left behind in the classroom, but the momentum was there and my students persevered with reading, analyzing, and writing a wide variety of poetry, remotely.

By the end of the year, when I asked them what they loved most about my class, many mentioned our poetry unit!

I am so grateful for your donation and look forward returning back to the classroom where students can continue to access these amazing books!”

  • A Modern Look at the Classics!

    Funded Mar 4, 2020

With your generation donation, I have expanded my library to include a books that are more relatable to my students.

This past year, to promote reading, I incorporated daily independent reading at the beginning of each class.

At first, my students were hesitant, but as we moved through this daily routine, more students discovered that reading can be fun. As the classroom library got bigger, so did my students' love of reading.

I look forward to getting back into the classroom so my students can continue to grow this love!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ross

Although these are basic school supplies (pens, tissues, post-its, Clorox wipes.) they are luxuries to my future students as well as myself. One of the biggest struggles I encounter every year is having to provide pens/pencils on a daily basis to my students. With this generous grant, I will be able to graciously provide basic supplies to my students who are unable to afford them themselves. Also, using Clorox wipes allows students to work in a germ free environment and keep desks graffiti free. Lastly, providing tissues for sick students is another act of kindness that goes a long way towards creating a supportive classroom community.
