If a student is not able to read or read very well they have a difficult time in school. Reading is in every subject. Students lose interest in school and become discouraged in themselves when reading by themselves is too difficult. I plan to change this by having the same magazine for every student and reading it together. By giving students real-world reading and scientific reading they will increase their reading skills. The class will sit down and read the magazines together and discuss it. This will increase classroom community. No student will feel threatened that the reading and discussing the reading is too hard for them. Science, which is a hard subject, will come to life with the magazine. I plan to buy coffee cups and serve a drink when we read the magazines just like we are sitting at home and reading a newspaper. It is going to be a special time on Friday afternoon in my classroom when all the students come together and work together.
