Throughout my time at my school, my students have demonstrated a great interest in modern day issues. After overhearing a respectful and intelligent conversation between my students during a break, I was inspired to teach a unit around this book. I read Unwind by Neal Shusterman when I was a teenager and its message and theme has stayed with me since. This book would be incredibly interesting for my class because it tackles several themes and issues that can engage them in their learning. My plan is to create a unit based on the science fiction and dystopian genres and how effectively they use fiction to present concerns in real, everyday life. My goal is for my students to develop an interest in reading so that they remain readers throughout the rest of their lives. I feel with this book and your help, we can bring them a step closer to becoming lifelong leaders.
