The books chosen are going to help my students become Sunshine State Readers because all 15 senior books and five Sunshine State Junior books will be at my students' fingertips. Throughout the year, I will highlight these books to help encourage my students to read them. Our school participates in two programs, first the Sunshine State Readers and second, the Reading Counts Program. All of these Sunshine State titles selected are part of the Reading Counts Program. Students are part of an extraordinary group if they read three or more of the Sunshine State Readers and pass the Reading Counts quiz associated with it. They can join an elite group if they read ALL 15 of the Sunshine books. Beyond encouraging students to independently read these fantastic books, I plan to incorporate at least two if not more of these wonderful titles as read-aloud books to ensure all students have the opportunity to join this special group of unbelievable readers. These vocabulary-rich books have both diverse fiction genres as well as reading levels, enabling all of my students to find the right fit book for them as they continue to grow their love of reading. I envision my students sitting in our classroom library or at their seats engrossed in these marvelous books. Their progress on the Sunshine State Readers will be highlighted as well as Reading Counts so they can take pride in their accomplishments throughout the school year. Class goals will be set as well so all students can be included, regardless of their reading level.
