  • Parable for Students!

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Again, I want to sincerely thank you for donating to my classroom. My students and I really appreciate your generosity.

We have begun our Octavia Butler book clubs and it is going really well. The Parable of the Sower graphic novels are a huge hit and have allowed my students to engage with this challenging text.

So far students have learned to suspend their beliefs and instead dive into the world that Butler has created. They are figuring out the who, what, when, where, why and how of her world building. Next, we will tackle the societal issues present in the books and then take a close look at the role of power. Thank you so much for taking away the barrier of access. I appreciate you.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Robinson

  • Camping in the Catskills

    Funded Dec 11, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our trip to Frost Valley! We had a wonderful time. We were there for three days and two nights and we loved every minute of it! We zip-lined, made our own candles, participated in a healthy cooking class, hiked in the woods, made smores by the camp fire, learned archery skills, and even climbed a tree and then jumped off of it!

The highlight of the trip was definitely watching the students help each other get out of their comfort zone and cheered along as one student conquered their fear of heights on the zip-line.

The trip to Frost Valley brought created new friendships and improved the camaraderie among the students in our classrooms. Thank you so much once again!”

    With gratitude,

  • Ready, Set, Read!

    Funded Apr 26, 2018

Thank you so much for the great new books! My students were so excited when they arrived. We begin each class with fifteen minutes of independent reading and it meant everything to them to get fresh new books.

We are starting a new character study unit which will help my students better understand the characters in their stories. They will be using their new books to dive into the lives of their main characters, dig beneath the surface to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses, and drawing more complex conclusions about them.

    Thank you so much again.”

  • Shakespeare in Brooklyn

    Funded Dec 27, 2010

I would sincerely like to thank you for your generous contribution to my classroom. My students are loving having their own copy of Othello. They were shocked that they did not have to read from photo copies and take exceedingly good care of their books.

We have been acting out scenes in class along with some very close reading of text and it has been amazing. They have expressed feeling both challenged and excited by reading such high level text. I often overhear students saying, "I feel like I'm in college!" ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Robinson

My students are awesome! However, they attend a school that has been severely hurt by budget cuts. We have not received money for new books in two years and have had to make do with photo copies. My students devour those photo copies none the less. I would love to surprise them with actual books that they can take home and make their own.
