Having Letters Alive in the classroom will bring the engagement of the students while learning their letter names and sounds; as well as the phonological awareness of learning how to read. Our school is located in the Central Valley of California and our school is a Title 1 school. Taking field trips from our school is a two to three hour excursion to get to a major city that has museums or zoos. Having this program in the classroom will not only enhance learning for our kindergarten children but it will also enhance our science program as we learn about the habitats of the animals and geography to learn where the animals live around the world. The additional component of having the Math Alive will continue to grow the skills needed for the kindergarten math curriculum. This program has shown a 48% increase in letter recognition and 112% increase in sound fluency. We are part of a community that is 84.7% below the poverty line. Bringing this program into the classroom is offering the children a chance to not only improve their reading skills but also bring the excitement they need to continue their success in both reading and math.
