Using the engaging informational text "Animal Behavior; Animal Defenses", students will explore the many animal defense mechanisms that animals have and how they use them in their habitats. Students will work in a variety of settings including whole group, small group, partner and individual settings to practice close-reading strategies, learn vocabulary, experience writer's workshop and master many other Language Arts objectives. These lessons also help students progress in the core science standards addressing animal habitats and adaptations. Students love animals and are always excited to be learning about them. This unit will allow students to make significant progress in both Language Arts and Science skills.
